Also known as purple sweet potato or purple yam, ube is a striking Southeast Asian staple. Whether you’re a beginner or a die-hard Ube fan, the purple bulb is taking over TikTok with a vibrant variety of recipes. Ube’s sweet flavor makes it an ideal dessert ingredient, while its natural purple hue makes it incredibly photogenic. From brownies to lattes, here are five awesome Ube-inspired recipes that are far from easy!

1. Ube brownies

This Ube recipe definitely scores! Start making the brownie batter by combining melted butter, brown sugar, egg and Ube flavoring with a mixture of all-purpose flour and baking powder. Next, pour the batter into a baking sheet before popping it in the oven at 320 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. After baking, cut the brownies into squares before serving.

2. Ube Rice Krispies treats

This Ube Rice Krispies recipe is colorful and delicious. Start by melting butter and mini marshmallows in a heated skillet. Next, add some Ube Extract followed by Rice Krispies Granola. Then mix thoroughly with the butter and marshmallows. Finally, fill the Rice Krispies into a mold of your choice and leave to cool.

3. Ube Iced Latte

Coffee fans will enjoy this recipe as a latte! First, put some ube cream — made from a mixture of coconut milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ube extract, and condensed milk — in a jar. Next add ice followed by your choice of milk before topping it up with espresso. Stir gently before serving and enjoy!

4. Ube Soufflé Pancakes

Start your day off on the right foot with these Ube Pancakes! Start by whisking together the egg yolks, milk, and ube extract in a bowl. Next, sift flour and baking powder. Then combine thoroughly. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites with sugar before adding the mixture to the other ingredients. Scoop the dough into parchment paper molds on a heated pan. Then add some water to the pan before putting a lid on it. Finally, flip the pancakes until cooked and top with whipped cream, raspberries, and a splash of condensed milk.

5. Ube Fried Mochi

Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, this mochi recipe is packed with sweet Ube flavor! First mix mochiko flour (sweet rice flour), sugar, ube halaya (ube jam), ube extract and water in a bowl until smooth. Next, add spoonfuls of batter to a saucepan of boiling oil and fry for four to five minutes. Remove the mochi balls and place them on a wire rack to drain excess oil. Finally, before serving, drizzle with sugar.
