Like many of us, Courteney Cox used her time in quarantine to develop new hobbies – and enrich some old ones. The Friends Alaun, who recently reunited with her former co-stars for HBO Max’s highly anticipated reunion special, has spent the last year giving her followers a closer look at her personal life. Cox’s Instagram feed includes lots of recipe videos, musical performances with her 17-year-old daughter Coco, and participation in Cointreau’s Ultimate Margarita Showdown alongside Andy Cohen and Daveed Diggs.

Cox, who will also be making a new music video shortly, is partnering with Cointreau on an initiative that will donate $ 100,000 to the Independent Restaurant Coalition, a nonprofit dedicated to helping COVID-19-affected bars and restaurants Restaurant community has prescribed pandemic. Because, hey, you can’t do it everyone Eat at home, right?

Cox spoke to Yahoo Life about her passion for cooking, how close she is to her teenage boy, and why she has a hard time singing despite loving music.

YAHOO LIFE: What inspired you to bring your cooking hobby to Instagram?

COURTENEY COX: When the quarantine began, there was nothing left but to stay at home and cook. I started to really enjoy it and now I think my cuisine is way better than a lot of the restaurants I have been to before. I still have a few favorite restaurants that I really want to get the recipes from, but so far to no avail. I love it. It has become a big part of my life. Developing content for Instagram is never easy, so I thought, “How can I let people have some of my hobbies?” I thought, “I like to cook, I like to play the piano, I like to play tennis and I like to hang out with Coco.” Now I only share these parts of my life.

You share so many great recipes on Instagram. What recipe would you recommend to anyone, regardless of their skills as a bartender or chef?

You mean besides banana bread? Because that’s the quarantine approach. Everyone has an almost rotten banana! As for the recipes, I think everyone needs to master the baked chicken. For the summer it’s nice to eat a lot of Mexican food, which goes well with margaritas, of course. The nice thing about Cointreau is that you can make so many drinks with it. I have mastered the strawberry margarita and the regular margarita and it was so nice for the summer.

Do you have any secret ingredients to make the perfect summer drink?

The real margarita made with Cointreau, tequila and lime juice is fantastic. But for my margarita challenge, I did it with kinky strawberries, which are really good. The secret weapon is called Red Clay Spicy Margarita Salt. It’s salty, it’s sweet, it’s spicy, and it made all of my margaritas amazing. It tastes great.

Do you have any advice for parents looking to get closer to their teenage boy?

I think it’s really important to have an open relationship so that they are comfortable talking to you. The best way to do this is not to poke them or shame them, but rather to hear and understand them. I think the most important thing is to keep them close and want to be open.

You post lots of videos of your singing and performing family on Instagram. Is your family moving in a more musical direction?

Well, Coco will definitely be studying musical theater in college. She likes to sing and loves the theater. I am obsessed with playing the piano. I love music, i love musicians. My partner [Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid] is in a band, but he’s also a writer. He writes some of the best songs currently on the radio. He’s just amazing.

I’m very drawn to anything music related, it makes me so happy. I took singing lessons with my daughter. I loved it so much that during class I started crying because the music, the words, just got out of hand. I couldn’t sing because not only did I have a bad voice, I got involved too much, I felt it too much. So now I only play the piano. I often have music nights in my home. It just makes me happy.

I was just directing a music video for Brandi Carlile. This was a very special one. I met her on Instagram and we became friends. We just had a really good time making the video called Right on Time. I’m looking forward to the video but what I’m really excited about is people hearing the song.
