SAGINAW, MI — Old Town Saginaw Diner Daniel’s Grill will close this weekend, ending nearly four years of serving American and Lebanese cuisine to a loyal following, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page.
The last day the restaurant will serve food is Saturday April 2, according to a farewell message posted on its social media page. The message encourages anyone with pending gift certificates to come in and use them.
Daniel’s Grill opened in mid-2018, months after the Court Street Grill closed in the same suite in the Ippel Building on the corner of South Michigan and Court. Daniel’s Grill owner Samuel Tarabay moved to Saginaw from Syria in 2015 and told MLive he “tried to build everything” for his son, after whom the restaurant is named.
The restaurant offers classic diner food, Lebanese specialties and a mix of both, such as the “Mediterranean Monster” burger, gyros omelet and “falafel waffle”. Treats like homemade donuts, shakes, and malts are also popular menu items. Everything is fresh and made to order.
“Unfortunately, the last two years have presented small businesses with numerous and incredible challenges – challenges that we simply cannot meet – leading us to make the heartbreaking decision to close Daniel’s Grill,” the Facebook message read. “We wanted to first personally tell as many of our regular customers as possible about the news, which is why some of them already know this sad news.”
In their farewell message, the Tarabays thanked their loyal customers and the Saginaw community, and encouraged locals to continue supporting other small businesses nearby.
They left open the possibility of returning in some form and asked fans to keep following the Facebook page to see what’s next for the family.
“As we close our doors, we hope it won’t be like this forever,” the message said.
“Saginaw is our home, the community is our family, and serving the city has been one of the greatest experiences of our lives. We are so blessed to have had your support and the privilege of meeting so many amazing people and we would love to have the same opportunity again.”
