FIFA referee workshop begins in Doha

Doha: The FIFA workshop for international referees nominated to oversee matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup opened in Doha yesterday.

The five-day workshop consists of an intensive program of theoretical and practical units led by the Italian Pierluigi Collina, Head of the FIFA Referees Committee, Massimo Busacca, Executive Director of the FIFA Referees Department, Hani Ballan, Chairman of the Referees Committee of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, together with Naji Jouini, Executive Director of the QFA Referees Department.

The workshop will be attended by 52 match officials (26 referees and 26 assistants), including Qatari referee Abdulrahman Al Jassem and assistant referee Talib Salem Al Marri.

Ballan opened the workshop with a speech in which he thanked FIFA for their great confidence in the QFA and also praised the participants and lecturers for their support of this event.

For his part, Busacca, Executive Director of the FIFA Arbitration Department, emphasized the importance of this workshop, especially as it was an important step towards establishing the final list of referees for the matches of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

In a statement on the official QFA website, the Executive Director of the FIFA Arbitration Department thanked the State of Qatar and the QFA for their great support and for creating all the necessary conditions for this workshop to be carried out professionally.

He also thanked the QFA Referees Committee and expressed his pleasure to be in Qatar and praised the excellent organization, limitless support and hospitality. He explained that the workshop will include theoretical lectures and practical application sessions in the Qatar University squares, as well as technical analysis and training on how to read games and their details. The theoretical part of the workshop will be held in the Intercontinental Hotel through discussions and video analysis.

The working group of the workshop consists of a team of international lecturers and another team for medical treatment as well as fitness specialists, specialists for technical and IT support and administrative officials.
