Free and Low-Cost Bay Area High Holidays, 2022 – J.

0

Craving some fellowship for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur but don’t know where to go? Welcome to our annual list of free and low-cost services open to the public.

After two years of almost entirely virtual worship, some synagogues and other Jewish institutions are offering in-person worship again — and there are plenty of free livestream options too (including synagogues not listed here). Covid safety guidelines vary, so check in advance if masks and/or proof of vaccination are required to attend.

Each High Holiday service listed here costs $72. Some synagogues offer free services for students or new participants, some offer grading, some have childcare. All donations are welcome and few, if any, will turn anyone away for lack of funds. Registration is required in many cases, so be sure to check.

Most Chabad centers also offer free, low-cost, and donation-based services. A few are listed here, but you can also check out Chabad’s High Holiday Services Directory to find a location near you.

Only the first main service of the day and family services are listed; For more services, times, costs, and other details, see the synagogue’s website.

This year, Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset on Sunday, September 25, and Yom Kippur begins at sunset on Tuesday, October 4.
