Iron Chef Morimoto launches make-your-own mochi donut kit

The do-it-yourself kit puts a Japanese spin on donuts with the addictive chewy texture of mochi, easy-to-mix batter and glaze, unique cooking tools like a donut mold and reusable piping bag, and instructions on how to bake.

The kit includes dry ingredients for 18 baked (not fried) donuts in three flavors — chocolate, strawberry, and matcha — but Chef Morimoto wants bakers to reuse the molds and get really creative.

Can’t stop at just one

“I love that we were able to combine a Japanese and an American favorite into one delicious treat,”said chef Morimoto, who received critical acclaim for his seamless integration of Western and Japanese ingredients and a global tally of 18 restaurants.

“The Morimoto Mochi Donut Kit features perfectly sized donuts – be careful, once they’re ready to eat, it’s not easy to stop on just one!”

The renowned chef’s collaboration with Global Grub was brokered by Allied Global Marketing Partnerships, which has a long history of bringing brands together. The company’s global team of specialists – more than 400 people in 24 offices in North America, Europe and Australia – create campaigns that drive conversions for some of the world’s biggest brands and their diverse clients across film, television, streaming, sports, gaming and live drive entertainment, cultural institutions, hospitality and consumer brands.

Anyone can cook

“I’ve been a fan of Chef Morimoto for a long time: he inspired me as a culinary artist and a businesswoman”, said Carley Sheehy, founder of Global Grub.

“As a self-taught chef, I’ve enjoyed watching and learning from Chef Morimoto on Iron Chef throughout my journey, so this partnership is very special to me.”

When founding the San Francisco-based company (2012), Sheehy said she wanted to give chefs that little extra push they need to experiment in the kitchen and learn new techniques. The focus is on global specialties and includes kits such as Churro Kit, Mochi Ice Cream Kit, Fortune Cookie Kit and Sushi Making Kit, among others.

The kits come stocked with non-perishable specialty ingredients, the necessary cooking tools, detailed instructions, and a shopping list for a few basic items.

The Morimoto Mochi Donut Kit is available from Morimoto and Global Grub for an MSRP of $42.99.
