Jewish Community Center bocci tournament to benefit Sunrise Day Camp for children with cancer

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Staten Island’s Joan & Alan Bernikow JCC is hosting a bocce ball tournament in September to benefit the Lucille & Jay Chazanoff Sunrise Day Camp.

“We look forward to seeing everyone on the bocce courts and having a great time while supporting these deserving children,” said Orit Lender, CEO of the JCC.

Lucille & Jay Chazanoff Sunrise Day Camp is a full-day summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings that is provided free of charge. The only day camp of its kind in New York City, it serves children from Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan and nearby New Jersey.

Now in its second year, the bocce ball tournament, taking place on September 22, will be a day of friendly competition in one of Staten Island’s fastest growing sports. New and returning players also have the opportunity to enter a golf chipping competition.

The event will include a beer tasting from the flagship brewery, a Taste of the Mediterranean cuisine, music and raffles.

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Lucille & Jay Chazanoff Sunrise Day Camp.

This year, the JCC is proud to honor Brandon Sturman, Executive Vice President of Home Team Mortgage, and Vincent Malerba, President of Angelina’s Group, for their continued support of Sunrise Day Camp.

“Brandon and Vincent reflect the strong community spirit that allows us to make Sunrise Day Camp a memorable experience for our campers,” said Lender. “We have just wrapped up another amazing summer season and you could see the joy on their faces every single day of camp.”

The event will be co-chaired by Solomon Chemo, Cory Schifter, Bob Cutrona and Brian Lincer.

The tournament will be held on the lawn at Bernikow JCC, 1466 Manor Rd. Players are asked to check in at 11:00 am. The tournament starts at 12:00 p.m.
