New Green Tech optimizes the extraction of aged black garlic

MADRID, September 27, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Pharmactive introduces its novel, environmentally friendly ABG Cool-Tech® technology, which optimizes the extraction process of its best-selling ABG + ® ripened black garlic extract through more sustainable methods. The company now also offers a more concentrated formulation, ABG25 + ®, which will be marketed along with its existing ABG10 + ® organic ingredient. The fortified and fortified formulation is designed to primarily serve the heart health and immune supplement field.

Aged black garlic is a functional food ubiquitous in culinary art. ABG + is made through the proprietary aging process of fresh garlic bulbs (Allium sativum L.). This process consists in promoting the Maillard reaction, which converts fresh garlic into ripened black garlic, which exerts the unique properties of deep black hue and a distinctive caramel-like taste and texture, while enriching the main bioactive molecules, creating a pool of potent antioxidants arises, including Polyphenols, Flavonoids, and Melanoidins. One of the most common of these is S-allyl cysteine (SAC), which is known for its cardioprotective properties.

Pharmactive’s new ABG25 + formulation is standardized to 0.25% SAC compared to its bio-certified predecessor, which contains 0.1% SAC, effectively reducing the recommended daily dose from 250 mg to 100 mg per day. “ABG25 + was designed to meet market demand for low-dose compositions that can be easily incorporated into smaller capsules,” explains Julia Diaz, Head of Marketing at Pharmak. “Our leading ingredient ABG10 + continues to be an excellent choice in both the supplement and functional food sectors.”

The increased potency of ABG25 + is attributed to the ABG Cool-Tech used by PharmactiveTM Extraction and purification technology as an additional feature embedded in its proprietary extraction process. The company’s technology focuses on the water extraction methodology, which is designed to optimize the extraction and preservation of 100% virgin SAC and other relevant bioactive compounds from ripened garlic. It does not use harmful solvents, synthetics or additives, and does not require the use of high temperature processes or burning methods (which is an extensive counterfeiting practice to avoid the costly aging process) that is common in the manufacture of aged black garlic. Such processes can increase the risk of the formation of oxidizing substances, such as Acrylamides and Furfurals.

Aged garlic has been valued for its cardiovascular and immunological properties for thousands of years.
