NWI Business Ins and Outs: Santa Fe Restaurant & Bar, Naf Naf Middle Eastern Grill, and Zorro’s Mediterranean Fusion open; Filipino restaurant closes | Headlines in Northwest Indiana

The Santa Fe Restaurant & Bar brings authentic Mexican cuisine to one of the fastest growing residential areas in northwest Indiana.

The new seating restaurant opens Monday at 14825 101st Ave. in Dyer, just east of the Guacamole restaurant.

“I think you will find that it is one of the best new restaurants in Northwest Indiana,” said consultant Fred Goebel, who sponsored the opening. “It’s going to be a high-end restaurant, one of the nicest new restaurants. You’ll want to try it.”

The 5,500 square meter restaurant can seat around 180 to 200 guests. It serves traditional Mexican dishes such as carne asade, tamales, and tacos.

“It’s not a taqueria,” said Goebel. “It’s a beautiful restaurant with a full bar.”

The Santa Fe Restaurant & Bar occupies one of three rooms in a new mall on busy 101st Avenue, which turns into a 55 mph highway in neighboring Will County, Illinois.

“There is a lot of traffic in the early evening and late afternoon,” he said. “A lot of people live in northwest Indiana but work in the city. Many houses have been built there, but most of the restaurants are still on US 41 or Crown Point Square. It’s a unique location support it. ”

Owner Rafael Gonzalez is from Indianapolis. He said the seating restaurant specializes in fajitas, enchiladas, and burritos. It offers seating and take-away meals.

“We might have a delivery at some point, but we want to take it a little slowly at first,” he said.

The restaurant will initially employ around 20 to 25 people. It will have a full bar with a selection of margaritas, tequila, beer and wine.

“It’s going to be a very nice restaurant,” he said. “There are a lot of houses and people here who are moving into the neighborhood. We have chosen a place and will make it work. It’s called Santa Fe because there’s a Santa Fe in Mexico and a Santa Fe in America. It’s a good name. “

The Santa Fe Restaurant & Bar is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10.30 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
