St. Pete’s 5 Best Grilled Cheese Sandwiches Count Pet

0

It’s summer in St. Pete and we’ve counted our top 5 grilled cheese sandwiches in the area. Time to melt with I Love the ‘Burg.

It is 12 o’clock; Lunch is just around the corner and you’re hungry.

You begin to dissociate behind your zoom screen and notice that your mind is slowly wandering into a land of warm, melted cheese and crispy sandwiches. Sure, you may have spent the morning growing up, but at this point your inner child is crying. A salad from the new vegan eatery below is simply not enough: you definitely want a grilled cheese.

If you find yourself in this scenario frequently, you are not alone. Millions of Americans conjure up this lunch staple sandwich every day. But before you get out Wonder Bread, grease spray, and a pan, remember that you are not like “most Americans”. You are from St. Peter; a humble, unexpected destination for grilled cheese – as long as you know where to look. Fortunately for you, I have been looking far and wide for the finest from Burg.

After trying over 30 of St. Pete’s best cheese and carbohydrate combinations, I’ve compiled an official list of my favorites. I’m posting the top 5 below in the hope that my fellow cheese suckers will find something tasty to devour.

The list:

“Not your mom’s grilled cheese” – The Mill

Offered daily on The Mill’s lunch and brunch menu, this sandwich is exactly what you’d expect from its name. With four types of cheese (including a superbly whipped feta), crispy fried shallots, and delicious paprika jam loaded between two hearty slices of marble rye, this grilled cheese is definitely one for an upscale palette.

“7-grain grilled cheese” – The Galley

I’ve always found The Galley to be an exceptional example of a lively, late-night tavern that actually has good food. And every time I order their 7-grain grilled cheese, my trust in the humble pub is reaffirmed.

With balls of self-made Fresh mozzarella, Havarti, rocket and avocado on decadently buttered multigrain bread, the grilled cheese from The Galley is sloppy and delicious – and at the same time is full of nutritional values.

Everything on the menu – The Lure Ono

When the former DTSP grilled cheese powerhouse, Central Melt, closed its doors, The Lure owner Tom Golden quickly grabbed the space (as well as former melt cook Tarina Abraham) to keep his legacy alive. Today the new restaurant operates as “The Lure Ono” and offers a menu that combines Tom’s refined taste with Tarina’s popular cooking techniques.

While literally every grilled cheese on the menu is fantastic, the team mentions the “Rich Ono” (pineapple pork, Pepperjack, Munster), “Krabby Paddy” (Maryland Crab Cake, Cheddar, Pepperjack) and the “Green Jeans” (avocado , Mozzarella and bacon) are among her favorite sandwiches.

“Three Grilled Cheeses” – Brooklyn South

With a dedicated, professional cheese vendor running the show, it’s no surprise that Brooklyn South brings out some of the best cheese sandwiches in the castle. However, I admit that they are a little untraditional – but absolutely best possible way.

For example, their “Three Grilled Cheese” is a mix of 3 artisanal cheeses, rather than just one, and is panini pressed rather than grilled for crispy perfection. There is only one bread option (freshly baked rustic Italian) but it’s an absolute show stopper. If you are looking for the highest quality grilled cheese, Brooklyn South is definitely the place to go.

“Triple OG” – Fo’Cheezy Twisted Meltz

With an entire restaurant devoted to the art of melting cheese between breads, Fo’Cheezy Twisted Meltz is hands down the best grilled cheese address in St. Pete. The restaurant, run by Food Network alumni Robert Hesse, offers “artisanal style, gourmet roadside grilled cheese” and attracts block-sized hordes of fans hungry for Burg’s most Instagram-worthy sandwiches.

Each night the menu features at least 13 superb grilled cheeses with everything from mac and cheese to Korean ribs stuffed between two massive slices of sourdough. My favorite order, however, is the classic “Triple OG” – but not without loading it with green chili mayo and crispy fried onions.
