With the rise of take-away and people spending more time at home, we’ve seen big brands offer new ways for people to enjoy their food. Nissin’s Cup Noodles, for example, has published recipes that show us how to make their beloved instant ramen in okonomiyaki and chawanmushi. Now KFC follows with a series of recipes that recommend new, alternative ways to enjoy the fried chicken according to the Colonel’s secret recipe.
We don’t think these recipes are for the KFC fried chicken you just bought – because why would anyone buy fast food just to cook it again? These recommendations apply to leftovers. So there is no longer any reason to eat cold fried chicken from last night in the fridge. These recipes, available on the KFC Japan website, show you how to turn leftover chicken into rich meals like ramen and sweet and sour chicken.
Since the recipes are in Japanese, we’ve translated two of our favorites for you here.
KFC Sweet and Sour Chicken (for two)
3 pieces of crispy chicken
1 green pepper
2 tbsp ketchup
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
2 teaspoons of sugar
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon potato starch
3 tablespoons water
Cut your vegetables into bite-sized pieces and steam the carrots in a 600 watt microwave for a minute. Then divide each of the chicken strips into three parts.
Pour oil into the pan, set it on medium heat and toss in your onions and carrots. Once cooked through, add the remaining ingredients, including green pepper, chicken, and sauce. Fry for a minute or two, stirring, until the sauce thickens. Serve with white rice.
KFC Chicken Ramen (for one)
1 piece of original recipe chicken
Bones of 3 pieces of original recipe chicken
3 cups of water
5cm x 5cm kombu algae
5cm green piece of leek
1 tbsp ginger skin
1/3 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 pack of ramen noodles
1 kujo negi (green onion)
Running out of chicken? Don’t worry, you can still make a delicious meal out of the bones. Remove the meat from the chicken and heat it in the microwave. Pour three cups of water into a large saucepan and add the kombu, leek, ginger skin and the chicken bones.
Simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes and strain the ingredients. Add salt and soy sauce to the pot to complete your homemade chicken soup.
Cook a pack of ramen noodles in another saucepan. After cooking, put the noodles in a bowl and pour in the chicken soup. Cover your noodles with pieces of chicken, sliced kujo negi, and voila – you have a KFC chicken broth ramen.
