$10 Featured Sandos at Dish Society
In honor of back-to-school season and National Sandwich Month, every Monday in August, the Dish Society is offering a different house favorite Sammy for a sweet $10, available for dinner at all locations. This week’s $10 feature is Turkey Avocado.
Bartender takeover at Julep
As part of guest bartending responsibilities at Julep, owner Alba Huerta is inviting liquor industry icon Julio Cabrera, cantinero and founder of Cafe La Trova in Miami, to take over the bar from 7pm to 10pm. The celebration of cocktails, music and Cuban culture will feature five of Cabrera’s signature cocktails as well as a small menu from Cafe La Trova. Julep’s outdoor area will be transformed into a cigar bar, complete with music from a Cuban jazz band.
Advance ticket sales for Southern Smoke
Tickets to the highly anticipated 2022 Southern Smoke Festival (over the weekend of October 21-23) go on sale Tuesday, August 30 at 12pm CT. This year’s event will feature more than 60 of the top chefs and culinary celebrities from across the country, including a Texas H-Town Welcome Wagon hosted by Aaron Franklin and Hot Luck on Friday, Southern Smoke on Ice featuring “the raw bar to end all raw bars” on Saturday and The East Downtown Throwdown with live fires, trailers and pits on Sunday. All events benefit the Southern Smoke Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that supports food and beverage workers nationwide in crisis and has so far distributed nearly $10 million directly to people in the nationwide F&B industry in crisis through the Emergency Relief Fund .
Bad Bunny cocktails at URBE
URBE, 1101 Uptown Park, has a cocktail called El Conejo Malo (the Bad Bunny) and is offering to celebrate him and musician Bad Bunny’s upcoming concert in Houston on Thursday, September 1st and Friday, September 2nd the Mexican street food spot a concert ticket holders receive a free El Conejo Malo cocktail on September 1st and 2nd (show your ticket to redeem).
Grand Opening of Abu Omar Halal Spring
Houston-based Shawarma Food Truck Abu Omar Halal is celebrating the opening of its new spring location, 16350 Stuebner Airline, on Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September 3 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Guests attending the opening event full menu of shawarmas, kebabs and more for 50% off Friday and 25% off Saturday.

Houston Restaurant Weeks
Houston’s most-anticipated culinary event of the year, Houston Restaurant Weeks, running through Labor Day, is rocking an array of local restaurants and cuisines serving reasonably priced, fixed-price, multi-course meals including brunch, lunch and dinner -in and take-out out to raise funds for the Houston Food Bank. To date, HRW has raised $17.6 million, equivalent to 52.8 million meals donated to people with food insecurity in the area.
Bacon Day Specials at Snooze
International Bacon Day is September 3rd, and Snooze, an AM restaurant, is celebrating with specials through September 7th. All Snooze locations serve two over-the-top Bacon Day pancake specials, with 100 percent of proceeds going to Snooze’s partner No Kid Hungry and its mission to end childhood hunger. The Elvis-inspired Graceland Pancake is buttermilk batter filled with fresh banana slices, topped with peanut buttercream, caramel sauce, whipped butter and lots of smoky, chopped bacon; and the Bacon and Eggs Pancake is filled with shredded bacon and cheddar cheese and topped with a crispy fried egg, more shredded bacon, and black pepper maple syrup.
New and ongoing specials
A former school teacher, Patrice Farooq, owner of the local cupcake shop, will be hosting the Back-To-School Supply Drive at The Cupcake Kitchen, 2533 Southmore through September 30th. Farooq will be collecting supplies (including 8 1/2 x 11 Glossy Photo Paper, SD cards, white printer paper, expo markers and poster boards) for HISD teachers at Jack Yates Senior High – School of Communications Magnet Program. Customers who donate two supplies from the list will receive two free slices of carrot cake, red velvet cake or German chocolate cake with the purchase of any of Farooq’s homemade Southern dishes.
